Jalandhar: This time on Diwali, residents of Jalandhar bursted crackers worth Rs 15 crore.
The district administration allocated draws to 20 traders for the sale of firecrackers in the city. Traders were allowed to sell firecrackers by creating temporary shops in Burlton Park. However, due to delay in issuing licences, two traders refused to sell crackers this time. After the nomination was registered on one, only 17 shops set up units to sale of crackers Where there was a business of Rs 15 crore in three and a half days.
This was the first time that it took nearly eight days to issue licences to firecracker traders even after the draw of lots was held. After the draw of lots on October 12, the licences were issued late in the evening on October 20.
According to firecracker traders, the stock of firecrackers has been cleared only by selling crackers in bulk, while a large amount of firecrackers remained unsold, traders said.
