New Delhi: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the inaugural session of All India Conference of Law Ministers and Law Secretaries today via video message.

He said that many irrelevant laws have been abolished in the country and the states should also take this campaign forward and abolish the laws that have become irrelevant since the time of slavery.

Addressing the inaugural session of the All India Conference of Law Ministers and Law Secretaries held here through video message, the Prime Minister appealed to the states to focus on the language of the laws to be made in their states so that even the poorest of the poor can understand the new law better.

He said, “The language of law should not become a barrier for any citizen, every state should work for it too. We have to work for the academic system for the youth, the curriculum related to law should be in the mother tongue, our laws should be written in simple and easy language, digital libraries of important cases of high courts and Supreme Court should be in the local language.”

The Prime Minister said that many old laws of the time of slavery are still running in the states and it is necessary to abolish these laws from the time of slavery during this phase of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav of independence and make new laws according to the new era.

Throwing light on the special emphasis on removing the pressure of the government from the citizens of India, the Prime Minister informed that in the last 8 years, India has repealed more than one and a half thousand archaic laws and reduced more than 32 thousand compliances to put an end to the legal hurdles that obstruct the path of innovation and ease of living.
