New Delhi: An Army truck crashed at Zema in North Sikkim and 16 soldiers including three Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) were killed in this tragic road accident.
The crashed vehicle was part of a convoy of three vehicles. The convoy had moved from Chatten to Thangu in the morning. On the way to Zema, the vehicle skidded on a steep slope at a sharp turn.
A rescue operation was launched immediately after the accident and four injured soldiers were airlifted. Three junior commissioned officers and 13 soldiers were killed in the accident.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Deeply pained by the loss of lives of the Indian Army personnel due to a road accident in North Sikkim. The nation is deeply grateful for their service and commitment. My condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of those who are injured.”
