Gurbaj Brar was born in the village Bam located in District Sri Muktsar Sahib in Punjab. He attended Punjab University in Chandigarh where he majored in Punjabi language and literature. He also studied at Gopichand Arya College and D.A.V. College. He was head of the post-graduate Punjabi department and the coordinator of cultural affairs in Baba Freed Group Institution of Bathinda. In January 2011, Gurbaj arrived in Canada and settled in Surrey. He now works at Sher-E-Punjab as a weekend news reporter.
In his spare time, Gurbaj enjoys going to the library to find new books to read. He also likes listening to music, especially folk songs, and his favourite musicians include Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Surinder Surtaj. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Sholay are two of Gurbaj’s favourite films. Gurbaj also likes to lead a physically active lifestyle by playing soccer, something that he did often back home in India.
