Dr. Jasbir Singh Romana began working at Sher-E-Punjab Radio in 2006. He is the energetic host of the always informative, and sometimes controversial show Shamadaan, which is a Punjabi word meaning “a torch that lights the way.” He is known for asking hard-hitting questions while addressing the latest in cultural, political and social issues.
Jasbir was born in Daggo Romana (District Fridkot) in Punjab. He attended Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana where he concentrated on veterinary studies. He has always been passionate about journalism and wrote social and critical commentaries for Punjab Daily newspaper regularly. He immigrated to Canada in March 1996 and has been living in Surrey ever since.
Known for his outgoing nature, Jasbir enjoys meeting new people and learning about their experiences. He is known around the station for his witty sense of humour, easy going nature and words of inspiration. His favourite quote is by English writer William Hazlitt: “Grace is the outward expression of inward harmony of the soul.” As an avid reader, he enjoys the writings of Victor Hugo and Punjabi author Balwant Gargi.
